COUNTERPROTEST: RALLY AGAINST SUPPORTERS OF SB 1070
On Saturday, June 12th, white supremacists and supporters of SB 1070 will hold a rally at the Capitol and call for a similar racist law to be passed in Texas. SB 1070 is an attack on immigrants and people of color and we need to send a clear message that we will resist similar legislation in Texas. Join us in solidarity with those who are resisting SB 1070 in Arizona and across the U.S.!

Location: State Capitol, E 11th and Congress
Organized by the Democratic Solidarity Committee
For more info: atx.dsc@gmail.com

RSVP on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=121737531196392&ref=mf

Anyone who isn't super busy Saturday morning should try and make it out to this counter-demonstration.  From what I hear the people supporting SB1070 are going to make a big showing and we need as many people as possible to show them Austin DOES NOT SUPPORT SB1070!

Code Pink Houston Bares Naked Truth About BP

Code Pink HoustonCode Pink HoustonAbout 100 protesters, some wearing cowboy boots and little else, took to the sidewalk outside the U.S. headquarters of BP Plc on Monday to "bare the truth" about the giant oil spill that is threatening an environmental disaster for the Gulf of Mexico.

On a hot Texas afternoon, protesters marched to BP's Houston "campus" from a nearby park chanting phrases like "Hey, hey, Lamar McKay, how many fish did you kill today," a reference to BP's top U.S. executive.

The protesters -- many of them women from the activist group Code Pink -- wore little clothing, while others were costumed to resemble the fish and birds that have been injured or killed by the spreading massive oil slick caused by the deadly April 20 oil rig explosion.

"What do you get when you drill, drill, drill?" chanted protester Medea Benjamin, wearing a bright pink wig, pink tape covering her breasts and skin-colored spandex shorts covered by a fishing net. "The naked truth, spill baby spill."

The Houston event was one of many staged by environmental groups in recent weeks.

In Port Fourchon, Louisiana, Greenpeace activists boarded a ship contracted to drill for Royal Dutch Shell in Alaska and wrote the words "Arctic Next?" in oil. Seven activists were arrested, Greenpeace said.

Dear Friends, Family, and Allies,

On Friday, April 23rd 2010 at approximately 1:30pm Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona signed into law the most aggressive bill against undocumented residents in the United States. Under Senate Bill 1070 (SB 1070) local police departments have been given the authority to identify, detain, and deport anyone they deem to be illegally in the US based solely on their suspicion. Yet we ask, "what does illegal look like?"

We the people believe that this is not only a decision deeply rooted in racism, but also a political plot to cause disruption between the State and Federal government at the expense of hard working families. The same stigma that has plagued people of color in unfair hiring and housing practices, education, police profiling and more has now been passed into so-called "law." Law is nothing but an opinion reinforced by intimidation. Also, how can you call someone else illegal when you live on stolen land?

We won't take this sitting down. Resist. Fight.

In Solidarity,
Toki Wright

A taste of Tuva

FROM THE BIOSPHERE AT THE BOTTOM OF TOWN LAKE

Dear Mugger,

It could have been different... alas we will never know.  You pointed your silly gun at me, said nothing, and silently demanded money.  I did what I could, calmly reach in my pocket and handed you about $120 worth of my hard earned money.  And I mean it... Hard earned!  Listen I think you're a total "A" hole, but setting that aside, and this goes out to all you would be muggers, all you have to do is ask..  You could accurately  describe in detail your needs, maybe just show me the gun... NOT POINT IT AT MY FUCKING HEAD...I MEAN FOR FUCK SAKE COME ON... REALLY WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG HERE, I'M NOT GOING TO TRY TO WRESTLE THE GUN AWAY FROM YOU IN A VEIN ATTEMPT TO SOMEHOW GET THE UPPER HAND AND HOLD ON TO WHATEVER MONETARY WEALTH I MAY HAVE ON A GIVEN DAY....whew...  Really dude what were you thinking? Do you think a drunk hairy individual such as myself would put it past anyone to shoot me... come on I'm a fucking realist...the hair... the drunk... I'm just asking for a bullet in the head.... I will pray for you my friend... for one day all the drunk hairy people of Austin will come together and then you'll be the one handing us money, and praying that that is enough sate our unquenchable blood lust... you sick fuck...

Love,

     Toesock

Pay Close Attention-The Streets Will Not be Silenced... San Antonio Free Speech Lawsuit Moves Forward

There's an old saying that reads 'The price of freedom means one has to be forever vigilant', meaning folks, especially those who are in power or feel threatened will always be scheming to find ways to limit or outright take away your power. What has been going on in San Antonio since November 29 2007, is that the Mayor and City Council voted to give the police power to charge for 'Free Speech' in public space at their discretion. Such a move is a blatant assault  one of our core basic freedoms-The right to assemble FREELY. Below is a video that gives a brief backdrop as to what's happening...
